JP Sakey Speaks on IHeart Media Podcast – CEOs to Know

JP Sakey joined iHeart Media Raleigh on their CEOs to Know podcast series. The series shines a spotlight on decision-makers from all corners of the Triangle showcasing the leaders and companies that drive our local economy.

Sakey has a passion for business with over three decades of experience in executive leadership roles, having served, for the past 13 years, as CEO of Headway. He began his foray into the human capital sector with the buyout of SPEC Group Holdings and subsequently fostered a ten-fold growth over a six-year period before SPEC was acquired by TMP Worldwide. Sakey has served as president of Monster.com’s e-Resourcing Americas group, has been an advisory member of the North Carolina Governor’s Innovation Council, and was recognized by Human Resource Outsourcing Today with their prestigious HRO Super Star Provider Award for his vision, influence, and tenacity.

In this episode of CEO’s to Know, Sakey speaks on the challenges in the current labor market. “The labor markets have improved dramatically in the past 3 years,” he says, “The challenge now is matching the right talent and skills with the right job opportunity. It’s not simply a Headway challenge, this is a challenge for many employers.”

Through payroll outsourcing, employer of record services, recruitment process outsourcing, and our newly acquired technology, Shiftgig, Headway is continuing to grow. “We help employers figure out to best attract [workers], how to drive traffic, how to get the best workers,” Sakey says. Our goal is to simplify the process, make it easier for the job seeker, and make it easier for the company needing the service.”

Last year alone, Headway placed 20,000 candidates in all 50 states all while working remotely in Raleigh, NC. In fact, “We’ve covered every zip code in the United States,” Sakey says. Headway focuses on project-based work. With the growth of the gig economy, there is a large group of workers who are looking to pick up extra shifts in their free time. “its’s the largest and fastest-growing part of our business,” Sakey said.

The future is bright for Headway, as Sakey looks back on the 2019 year and discusses plans for 2020.  “We’re definitely going to do another major step in growth and we’re pretty pleased at how 2020 shaping,” Sakey says.
