Now that you’ve accepted the job, your first impression is critical. Here are a few tips for acing your first day.

    Dress the part

On your first day, it is essential to dress for success. If its clear that your overdressed, you can dress down the next day.

    Plan your morning routine

This is a great time to reset your morning routine. We’re you in the habit of waking up late, skipping breakfast, or getting to work late? Now is the best time to shake up your morning routine. Having a routine you like and sticking to it definitely impacts your overall happiness, so take this as an opportunity to get your mornings started on the right foot.

    Be punctual

This goes along with planning your new morning routine. Be sure to give yourself enough time to arrive slightly early on your first day. The first day of your new job is not the time to arrive late, leave early, or take an extended lunch break.

    Ask questions

Don’t be afraid to ask honest and direct questions. It’s better to get these questions out of the way now. Be sure to record the answers to these questions. It will quickly become awkward to ask the same questions over and over.

    Have a plan for downtime

On your first day, you might experience downtime between orientations or meetings. Have a plan if one isn’t set for you. Look for a colleague to shadow or ask advice from or read up on your companies policies.
