Everyone loves that news: You’re Hired! Now you are ready to start working! Wait, put on the brakes! There’s paperwork, paperwork, and more paperwork, still to be done!
Amidst all the excitement, before you can actually start to earn that new paycheck, you will have to complete your New Hire, or Onboarding, paperwork. It takes time, effort, and resources, but a great first impression is critical to your future employment with the company that hired you; and it’s your first chance to prove your value.
Federal, State, and Company-related paperwork are to be expected and each has specific rules and procedures for completion. Reading your instructions thoroughly will prevent you from becoming “that new guy,” you know the one… “the one who doesn’t follow directions.” You don’t want the New Hire Team to tell your brand new Boss that you are unresponsive, or unable to complete tasks as assigned; just because you haven’t read the documentation given to you.
Start off on the right foot with your new employer! Be responsive to their communications and follow the instructions they give you. Remember, they are employing many, many people and you don’t want to get lost in the shuffle!
